How we calculate

We estimate the calories your body burns at rest with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the formula dietitians use most often, then multiply by your activity level.

For weight loss we subtract 250, 500 or 750 calories depending on the pace you choose, but never more than 25% of your maintenance and never below 1,200 calories.

Protein is set at 1.6 g per kg of a reference weight, which protects muscle while you lose fat. Fat is 30% of calories and the rest comes from carbs.

Every body is different. Treat the result as a starting point, check your progress after three or four weeks and adjust by 100 to 150 calories if needed.
